MY STORY

HERE I'M SHARING MY STORY ON HOW MY CAREER IN DESIGN STARTED!

DISCOVERING MY PASSION FOR DESIGN

My passion for design started when I was only 12 years old! In my youth, I studied at a specialized visual arts school for six years. During this early education, I experienced the opportunity to develop my skills as a visual designer and interacted with a multitude of technical programs, many of them connected to design.

After finishing high school, I decided to tackle a new challenge and explore science – a field I was equally passionate about – completing my bachelor of science with a major in chemistry while also studying anthropology and community behavioral patterns. For six years I became deeply immersed doing research on inorganic, physical and educational chemistry.

I fell in love with problem solving and having the opportunity to build something new.

As a researcher, I fell in love with problem solving and the opportunity to build something new. I began to wonder if a career experience could merge my visual design background with all of my scientific knowledge and skills.

TEAM WORK & COLLABORATION

While doing my Master of Arts in cultural interdisciplinary studies and working at Microsoft Puerto Rico, I discovered User Experience Design. Although UX was not yet a well-known field on Puerto Rico, to me it was a revelation! I quickly made the decision to learn all I could: researching, studying tutorials, and applying what I learned wherever possible. Embracing this new journey, I had the opportunity to use all these new skills while working at Microsoft and a variety of startups around the island.

I moved to the United States with the goal to continue to grow intellectually, in a field that inspires me.

The discovery of User Experience Design has proven to be the most paramount moment in my career. It allows me to apply both my research and design skills, and through the lens of my diverse perspectives I am able to apply a fresh and analytical perspective to complex UX challenges. When building new tools and products, I naturally apply my chemistry background – thinking about the connection of molecules and understanding their behavior in different environments is applicable to so many UX problems!

With my enthusiasm for UX, I want to ignite others around me to learn and fall in love with the technologies that they use in their day to day lives. My mission is to build products that create a bridge between technology and people.

WHAT I LIKE TO DO WITH MY FREE TIME

I love to be adventurous and go hiking and traveling. I am fond of spending quality time with friends and family as well as dedicating time to myself. My favorite hobby is dancing latin music because it connects me to my roots.

I would like to thank everyone that has supported me through my career! I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t because of my friends, family, mentors, and coworkers.
